LEIRUBAKKI WINTER RETREAT.png

A letter from Fríða

Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. At Leirubakki, they are not something we only bring out for visitors — they are simply part of our everyday life.

We feed them in the morning, we work them during the day. We pair mares with stallions, wait for the unborn foals with excitement and then follow their journey from foal to a grown horse. Winter days and summer nights, christmas, new years and easter. Our lifes are always centered around our horses.

That is the side of Iceland I would like to share with you.

Not from a tour bus or by stopping by the fence on the highway. Not by rushing from one attraction to the next.

I would like you to come and live with us for a while.

For 6 days, the group becomes part of life at Leirubakki. We ride, care for the horses, explore the countryside, eat together and share stories at the end of the day. There will only be four guests. A group small enough that we can get to know you, find the right horse for you and let each day unfold according to the weather, the horses — and sometimes simply how everyone feels that morning.

My hope is that you arrive as a guest, but leave feeling that you have become part of this place.

Welcome to Leirubakki.
